A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
