Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with results like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
