Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
