Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
