NFL Postseason Scenarios: Crucial Matchups & Scenarios for the Final Week.

NFL teams in action
Pittsburgh faces off against Baltimore to determine the AFC North, while Seattle and San Francisco clash for the #1 spot in the NFC.

As we head into the last weekend of the NFL regular season, only a pair of play-off spots are still up for grabs. However, far more is on the line, such as the coveted #1 rankings in both conferences and several divisional crowns.

NFL schedulers have crafted a perfect finale, with the two remaining play-off positions to be decided in a pair of head-to-head contests.

Current NFL Play-Off Standings

American Football Conference Rankings

  1. Denver Broncos (13-3)
  2. New England Patriots (13-3)
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars (12-4)
  4. Pittsburgh (9-7) / Baltimore Ravens (8-8)
  5. Houston Texans (11-5)
  6. L.A. Chargers (11-5)
  7. Buffalo Bills (11-5)

The victor of the Steelers-Ravens game will secure the #4 spot and a home game in the wildcard round. At the same time, Buffalo and the Chargers are set as wildcard teams.

The Texans require a victory coupled with a Jacksonville defeat to jump from the fifth seed to third. The Broncos will earn the #1 ranking with a triumph, but a loss could pave the way for the Patriots or Jacksonville to snatch it.

National Football Conference Rankings

  1. Seattle (13-3)
  2. Chicago Bears (11-5)
  3. Philadelphia Eagles (11-5)
  4. Carolina (8-8) / Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-9)
  5. San Francisco (12-4)
  6. Los Angeles Rams (11-5)
  7. Green Bay Packers (9-6)

The South division is up for grabs by the victor of the Panthers-Buccaneers game, earning them the fourth seed. However, the Panthers could still win the division even with a loss, contingent on other outcomes.

Green Bay are locked into the seventh spot. The highlight, though, is the clash for the NFC's top seed between the Seahawks and San Francisco, with a week off and home-field advantage on the line.

How the NFL Postseason Works

The #1 team in each conference receives a crucial first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

On the Wild Card round, the other six qualified teams face off: the second seed hosts the #7 team, #3 plays #6, and fourth hosts fifth.

For the second round, the top seeds enter the competition, hosting the weakest remaining seed. The AFC and NFC championship games are then hosted by the highest seed, highlighting the critical importance of securing that #1 ranking.

AFC North Decider: A Brutal Finale

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers (01:20, Monday)

This fierce grudge match comes to a head in the final game of the NFL season. The divisional title and a postseason spot on the line, this is a true win-or-go-home scenario.

Pittsburgh have been up and down all year, while Baltimore started poorly but remain in contention. Key injuries may prove critical: Pittsburgh may miss star receiver DK Metcalf, while Baltimore's quarterback their MVP QB is questionable with a back injury.

Star rusher the powerful back might emerge as the x-factor for Baltimore in what is set up as a hard-hitting, defensive battle.

NFC West Showdown for the Top Seed

Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers (01:00, Sunday)

Not only the NFC West is at stake when Seattle travels to the 49ers. The victorious team secures the NFC's top seed and the path to the Super Bowl that comes with it.

This game pits an explosive San Francisco attack against a dominant Seattle defense. With QB their young passer came back, San Francisco have been the NFL's highest scorers. On the other hand, Seattle's defense is ranked second best in the league.

Seattle quarterback their passer needs to cut down on mistakes that have plagued him this season. Whoever comes out on top gains a massive advantage for the postseason journey.

The NFC South's Uncertain Finish

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21:30 Saturday)

Both clubs comes into this game with much momentum. Tampa Bay have dropped four straight, while the Panthers have squandered recent opportunities to clinch the division.

The Panthers it's simple: win and they're in. For Tampa Bay, the situation is more complex. Even with a victory, they need another result from the Falcons-Saints game to claim the division crown.

Three-Way Fight for AFC Supremacy

Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (18:00, Sunday)
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins (21:25, Sunday)
Los Angeles Chargers @ Denver Broncos (21:25, Sunday)

The Denver Broncos hold the cards for the #1 AFC spot. A victory over a L.A. Chargers team likely to rest key players seals it.

Should Denver falter, the door opens for the New England Patriots. A Patriots win coupled with a Denver defeat would hand the #1 ranking to Bill Belichick's team.

Jacksonville are the dark horse. They need a triumph and losses by the Broncos and Patriots to pull off an unlikely rise to the top. More importantly, a Jacksonville defeat could allow them to be overtaken by the Texans in the AFC South.
