The daughter of ex- South African Head of State Jacob Zuma has denied all charges to terror allegations at the start of her legal proceedings in the coastal city of the city of Durban.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, forty-three, is being prosecuted over comments she posted on social media several years back during deadly demonstrations in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the apprehension of her dad.

A week of anarchy in various areas of the country in the summer of 2021, including theft and intentional burning, left at least three hundred deceased and led to damage worth an estimated $2.8 billion (£2.2bn).

The defendant has been charged of fuelling this unrest and is charged with accusations of incitement to commit terrorism and public disorder.

Background of the Case

The demonstrations were focused in the provinces of Gauteng and KZN and were triggered by the former president's arrest for disobeying a court order to testify at an probe into claims of corruption while he was in power.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has always rejected the allegations against her, with her legal representative earlier labelling the prosecution's case as unsubstantiated.

She has also frequently said the accusations against her were an effort to settle political grievances with her father after he founded his own political organization and ran against the African National Congress.

Endorsement and Court Representation

This was echoed by the Jacob Zuma foundation, which said the proceedings was an "abuse of power" and a "organized effort" of "politically motivated and family-related persecution" against the previous head of state and his kin.

A small number of backers from her party, uMkhonto weSizwe, turned up outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her father and other organization officials attended the proceedings inside.

The defendant's representatives has argued that the proof presented by the state is insufficient and fails to provide concrete proof for a criminal finding.
