A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before running away.

The purpose of the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, as per the official statement.

Details of the Attack

Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the site supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their destination," added an official.
