The President Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to pause asylum processing and cease granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed the program that she planned to visit the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
